The Swedish Film Institute's stills and poster archive is open to everyone interested in the history of film.
Our collection includes stills and posters from most of the films ever screened in Swedish cinemas, from the early 20th century up to the present day.
The archive also features an extensive collection of portrait photographs of Swedish and overseas film personalities from all areas of the industry. Of particular note is a collection of portraits of Greta Garbo spanning her entire career. Further material includes photographs of older Stockholm cinemas, various film events and technical documentation.
We are often asked for digital versions of material from the collections. Most of our clients are from the film and media industry, yet other frequent users of our services include publicists, researchers and cultural institutions. Naturally, you can also order images for private use and from outside Sweden.
Copyright
Please note that the Film Institute does not own the copyright to the material contained in the archive. The duty to reach an agreement with the copyright holder always lies with you the client. If you intend to publish any pictures you are always welcome to ask the archive staff for advice on the best way to proceed.
