Assessment of which projects should be granted production funding is carried out by film commissioners who are appointed for a limited period. The commissioners present their proposals to the board of the Film Institute, which ultimately decides on production funding.
There are five commissioners, two for feature films, one for short films, one for documentaries and one for children's films. The feature film commissioners can also propose production funding for children's and documentary films.
The film commissioners' mandate period is three years, with the possibility of a limited extension.
