Seeds of the Fall (Slitage)

Drama comedy Seeds of the Fall by Patrik Eklund is about a middle-aged couple, Rolf and Eva, their lukewarm relationship and Eva's sexual frustration. When Eva's attempts at seduction are rebuffed, their relationship suddenly undergoes a brutal change. Produced by Direktörn & Fabrikörn, the film is competing in the Semaine de la Critique section, where Eklund also took part in 2007 with Situation Frank. Earlier this year, Eklund made a huge success at Sundance Film Festival with Instead of Abracadabra, which also was nominated for a Guldbagge Award.

Dreams from the Woods (Drömmar från skogen)

For the second year running, Johannes Nyholm is taking part in Cannes' Quinzaine des Réalisateurs section (in 2008 he was there with the Guldbagge nominated The Tale of Little Puppetboy). Dreams from the Woods, in naive, puppet theatre style, follows a girl who sets out on an adventure in the big, wide world. But Death's flute draws her in with its sweet music, and she gets lost in the dark woods. The film was produced by Joclo with support from SVT, Film i Väst and The Swedish Film Institute's film commissioner, Andra Lasmanis.

Friday 22nd, Theatre Croisette, 14.30
Saturday 23rd, Studio 13, 19.30

Images from the Playground (Bilder från lekstugan)

Cannes Classics is screening the short film Images from the Playground, which features unique material from nine of Ingmar Bergman's behind-the-scenes films, from Sawdust and Tinsel to Persona. Written and directed by Stig Björkman, the film has been made with support from the World Cinema Foundation, whose chairman Martin Scorsese has also contributed a personal introduction to the film.

This is the first of two planned films and includes sound takes of Bergman and newly-recorded interviews with Harriet Andersson and Bibi Andersson. The specially composed score is by the recent Guldbagge Award winner, Matti Bye.

The behind-the-scenes-films are part of the collection donated by Bergman to the Ingmar Bergman Foundation in 2002, which since 2007 is included in Unesco's Memory of the World list. Stig Björkman's previous work on Bergman includes the interview film Ingmar Bergman (1971) and the classic interview book Bergman on Bergman (1970). Björkman is also the director of Tranceformer - A Portrait of Lars von Trier (1997) and interview books on Joyce Carol Oates and Woody Allen.

Images from the Playground was produced by the Ingmar Bergman Foundation in collaboration with Stina Gardell / Mantaray Film, with support from the World Cinema Foundation and the Swedish Film Institute's documentary film commissioner, Tove Torbiörnsson.
