The National Film Agreement contains an equality directive which states that the proportion of men and women in the key positions of director, screenwriter and producer should be at least 40 percent in those projects which receive funding from the Swedish Film Institute.
The Film Institute produces a wealth of statistics relating to the division of men and women in Swedish film, partly to enable us to analyse and evaluate our own equality initiatives, and also because they are often requested by the government and the film industry in general. The following pages contain a considerable number of these statistics.
The diagram below shows the proportion of women in key positions for all full-length feature films (including documentary features) which have been screened in Swedish cinemas during the first decade of the 2000s. The diagram comprises three graphs which show: all films premiered, films premiered with Film Commissioner funding from the Film Institute, and films premiered without Film Commissioner funding from the Film Institute.
