Support Funding from the Swedish Film Institute

The Swedish Film Institute is tasked to encourage Swedish film in a broad context. One of the ways in which this takes place is through support funding in four principal areas. The Institute also includes MEDIA Desk, which provides information on funding within the EU MEDIA programme.

Film production

Funding for the production of Swedish features, short films and documentaries is administered by the Film Institute's support funding department. Via this website you can also find information about funding for producers, training courses, box office related funding, automatic production support and the Rookie project, which provides funding for first and second-time directors.

Film in Schools

The Film Institute promotes the schools cinema initiative, film education, and the film-related creativity of children and young people. This is administered by the Film Across Sweden unit.

Distribution, cinema and regional funding

The Film Across Sweden unit administers funding for Swedish distribution of Swedish and overseas films, and also to cinemas, festivals and other screening organisations. The unit also manages regional funding.

The Film Institute's international department works in partnership with producers to provide funding for international launches of current Swedish feature, short and documentary films.

MEDIA Desk

MEDIA Desk provides advice on applications for the various grants available via the EU MEDIA programme and information on MEDIA-funded training courses and industry activities. The Swedish office is located within Filmhuset.
MEDIA is the EU support programme for the European audiovisual industry, i.e. the creation and distribution of film, television and interactive media. MEDIA focuses on what happens before and after production of a work, distributing funding for training, development of film projects, marketing and distribution of films, and also funding for film festivals.
