Clay animation and group psychology
Involuntary (De ofrivilliga) by Ruben Östlund is selected for competition in Un Certain Regard. It’s a tragic comedy about group psychology. Östlunds work is often compared with Roy Anderssons and last year You, the Living by Andersson was selected in the same section.
"Les grandes personnes" ("Grown-Ups") by Anna Novion plays in the International Critic’s Week. It’s the first Swedish and French co-production in twenty years. Set in Sweden it revolves around a father-daughter relationship during a holiday. The film is Novion’s feature film debut and features Swedish actress Lia Boysen in one of the leads.
Johannes Nyholm’s clay-animation The Tale of Little Puppetboy (Sagan om den lille Dockpojken) plays in the Director’s Fortnight section. Puppetboy lives alone in his apartment where small problems cause him frustration and nervous breakdowns. Nyholm, whose naive expression resembles the work of Michel Gondry, has made numerous creative music videos.
Marianne Griolets Lily will screen as part of the International Critics’ Week. It’s the absurd tale of a girl constantly disturbing her surroundings without any apparent reason. The screening will be the film’s world premiere.
Along with the directors, two of Sweden’s most celebrated actresses will attend Cannes. Lia Boysen, last year seen in the Berlin awarded When Darkness Falls and Maria Lundqvist (starring in Involuntary), previously seen in Heaven’s Heart screened in the Berlinale special section. Further, up and coming actor and comedy sensation Björn Gustafsson (starring in Les grandes personnes) will also attend the festival.
