First held back in 1935 with the legendary Sergei Eisenstein himself in charge of the jury, the Moscow Film Festival is one of the oldest in the world. Heading the jury this year is Luc Besson.

Dear Alice

In 2008 Othman Karim's feature debut About Sara (Om Sara) scooped the prestigious Golden St George award for Best Film at the festival.

"It's a great honour to be competing in Moscow once again. In 2008 we instantly fell in love with Moscow and the wonderful people we met there. It's such an amazing and glamorous city," says Othman Karim.

Born in 1968 in Kampala, Uganda, Othman Karim is a director and screenwriter. He has directed documentaries, short films and features both in America and Sweden since 1991. He first became familiar to Swedish audiences as the presenter of the news programme Mosaik, and more recently when two autobiographical documentaries were broadcast on Swedish television.

Synopsis

Dear Alice weaves together the lives of Moses, Karin, Francis and Bosse, who during the course of an ordinary day find themselves faced with what seem like trivial decisions. Yet these decisions prove catastrophic for all involved. The script is written by Othman Karim and Grace Maharaj Eriksson and the film's Swedish premiere is set for 9 July.

Emil Jonsvik's 7X - This is Our Kids is one of eight films selected for the Perspectives section of the Moscow Film Festival. The film screened earlier this year at the Göteborg International Film Festival and at the Stockholm Junior Film Festival.

Emil Jonsvik was born in Göteborg in 1978. Primarily a producer and director, he has an impressive CV for one so young, having worked in various parts of the film industry and produced more than 70 music videos, mostly hip-hop. He also directed the award winning break-dance documentary Shinding, and was the cameraman for Daniel Fridell's Blood Brothers (Blodsbröder).

Synopsis

A suburb somewhere in Sweden. Edvin, a new arrival at school, has quickly fallen victim to bullying, best friends Jenny and Mi have their lives blighted by violence, and Morgan and Martina are left at home alone when their parents go off on holiday leaving unpaid bills behind them. The discovery of a gun suddenly offers them a way out.
