Documentary success

Odell received international success in 2006 with Never Like the First Time! (Aldrig som första gången!) based on authentic interviews. Among the awards was the Golden Bear in Berlin and a Guldbagge, the Swedish national film award. Lies is produced by FilmTecknarna F. Animation and follows a similar style with three different episodes about the untrue told by a burglar, an innocent boy and a woman whose whole life has been a chain of lies:
– We all lie. But when working with documentary material as the primary source, you ask yourself what is the truth? Maybe filmmakers are the biggest liars of all whether you work in fiction or documentary, says Jonas Odell who spent one year and a half in making the film.

65th Venice International Film Festival runs August 27 – September 6.
